Turkey
The Fall 2008 IRP Gatekeepers traveled to Turkey where they met with a wide range of Turkish leaders in fields such as politics, business, religion, media, medicine and health, education, arts and culture and other areas.Topics included the future of Turkish democracy, media and freedom of expression, Islam in Turkey and the country's strategic role as an energy transit hub
Uganda
The Spring 2008 IRP Gatekeepers traveled to Uganda where they met with leaders and citizens from all walks of life to discuss agriculture, business, media, health, environment, conservation and science. Editors were able to discuss a wide range of these topics with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni during a two and a half hour interview. The Gatekeepers also traveled to the Rakai Health Services Program in southwestern Uganda, Jinja on Lake Victoria, and to the tropical rain forest near Masindi.
Korea
In Fall 2007 IRP Gatekeepers traveled to the Korean Peninsula, where they spent most of their trip in South Korea interviewing a wide cross-section of leaders in government, politics, business, health, academics and media. Their trip to also included a fascinating 26-hour visit to North Korea's Mt. Kumgang resort.
Nigeria
The 2007 Gatekeepers traveled to Africa's most populous country in the run-up to critical presidential elections. They reported on such issues as the future of the conflict-ridden Niger Delta, political corruption, and poverty.
Egypt
The 2006 Gatekeepers traveled to Egypt for a visit characterized by news-making events such as street protests and the arrests of political opponents. Gatekeepers met with a wide variety of Egyptians including Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, the head of Egypt’s antiquities department and with several leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.
India
The 2005 Gatekeepers traveled to India and
met with a wide cross-section of Indians, from the country's prime minister to AIDS-infected commercial sex workers, from a billionaire CEO of a high-tech company to vendors in a low-income New Delhi market.
Lebanon and Syria
The Spring 2004 Gatekeepers traveled to Lebanon and Syria. During the trip, they
met with Syrian President Bashar Assad and were the first Western journalists to interview him following recent sanctions imposed on Syria by the Bush Administration. They also interviewed Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah, the onetime spiritual leader of Hizbullah, among others.
South Africa
The 2002 Gatekeepers traveled to South Africa where they reported on some of the challenges
facing the country including poverty, AIDS, housing and conservation issues.
Brazil
The 2001 Gatekeepers traveled to Brazil where they reported on diverse topics including Brazilian
politics, economics, favelas and historical connections to the United States.
Indonesia
The 2000 Gatekeepers traveled to Indonesia shortly after the election of its new President. As
Gatekeeper Editors reported on issues of
labor, poverty and the country's political opposition.
