Applications for the Journalist-in-Residence fellowship are
not being accepted at this time. Please watch this space about the resumption
of applications.
Each year the International Reporting Project will award a fellowship
to one or more mid-career or senior U.S. journalists to enable them to
complete a significant project relating to international topics or the
international media. The fellowship is open to U.S. citizens only. Journalists
from all media may apply for the fellowship.
U.S. journalists with at least seven years of professional experience may submit proposals for projects ranging in length from one month to a maximum of eight months. It is up to the applicant to request the amount of time needed for the project. The Journalist-in-Residence will receive a stipend of $5,000 per month and a fully equipped office with access to SAIS library and research materials. The Journalist-in-Residence will be expected to participate in occasional seminars with the IRP Fellows in International Journalism and to conduct at least one seminar on his or her topic.
A selection committee will review all proposals. The exact length of each fellowship will be determined based on the applicant's stated need and the availability of the fellowship at any given time. Because the program will attempt to be as flexible as possible in meeting different needs of journalists, there may be variations in the number of Journalist-in-Residence Fellowships awarded each year.
