The International Reporting Project at SAIS hosted a two-day conference, "New Eyes, New Voices: A New Generation Looks at War, Peace and International News" on Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16. Lowell Bergman, a contributing reporter to The New York Times and "Frontline" producer and correspondent, gave the keynote address on May 16.

Speakers and participants included Don Belt, senior editor, Geography and World Affairs, National Geographic; Lowell Bergman, contributor, The New York Times and New York Times Television; Tom Bettag, executive producer, ABC News "Nightline;" Matt Catapano, senior manager, research and planning, MTV; Elizabeth Hightower, literary editor, Outside magazine; Steve Inskeep, host, "Weekend Edition, National Public Radio and former IRP Fellow; Jennifer Lawson, producer/consultant, Magic Box MediaWorks, Inc.; Lisa Mullins, anchor and senior producer, "The World" (PRI/BBC/WGBH); David Shribman, executive editor, Pittsburgh-Post Gazette; Sharon Tiller, executive in charge, PBS's "FRONTLINE/World"; Joan Walsh, vice president and news editor, Salon.com, and others.
