A woman dances in a circle at the end of a regional wrestling match in Serif. The ceremony, which includes singing and drums, is a celebration of the victors who dance on the outer ring of the circle.

 

A wounded SPLA soldier is carried by relatives on a cot to the airstrip. The soldier is being evacuated to the Red Cross hospital in Lokichokkio, Kenya, by plane because his gunshot wound is too complex to be treated in the local hospital.

An SPLA soldier caught in an ambush is treated for a gunshot wound in the hospital near Kauda. The hospital, which is run by German Emergency Doctors, is one of the few health facilities in the mountains and patients must walk for hours and sometimes days to be treated.
