Stephen J. Glain recently completed a three-year stint begun in July
1998 as Middle East bureau chief based in Amman, Jordan, for The Wall Street Journal,
covering politics, security, economics and social affairs in Israel and the Arab world.
He is currently working on a book about the Arab world and international trade.
From 1996 to 1998 he worked as a correspondent for The Journal and The Asian Wall
Street Journal in Tokyo, covering Japanese economics, industry, business, finance
and trade and writing feature stories and profiles of personalities and companies.
From 1993 to 1995 he worked for The Journal in Seoul, covering Korean economics,
industry, trade, finance, politics, social affairs and North Korea-South Korea
security issues.
Previously, Glain worked in Hong Kong as a correspondent for The Asian Wall Street
Journal from 1991 to 1992 covering economics, finance and politics. Before joining
The Journal, he was the Hong Kong correspondent for The International Herald Tribune from 1990 to 1991, covering regional economics, politics, trade, finance and social
issues. Before that, he was a senior correspondent in Hong Kong for Knight-Ridder
Financial News from 1987 to 1990.
Glain began his career as a reporter at The Hemet News in southern California. He
has a bachelor's degree in Government from Pomona College in Claremont, California.
