Doualy Xaykaothao
Doualy Xaykaothao is a radio journalist based in Bangkok, Thailand. Since 2003, she has been reporting from the Southeast Asia region for National Public Radio, Free Speech Radio News and other US public radio networks. Before moving to Asia, she worked for NPR News in Washington, D.C., from 1999 until 2003. During that period, she was a staff producer of the Newscast Unit, which won the 2001 Peabody award for newscasts about the attacks of September 11, 2001. While in Asia, she has covered the SARS epidemic, the bird-flu crisis, violence between Muslims and Buddhists in southern Thailand, and the Indian Ocean tsunami. She was raised in Texas, and educated in New York at Ithaca College and SUNY Empire.
