Mary Wiltenburg is a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow in Germany, covering US troops stationed there for the magazine Der Spiegel. A former Christian Science Monitor staff writer (2001- 2004), she reported from across the US on justice and environmental issues; her story about Kentucky inmates performing Shakespeare won a 2001 National Education Writers Association award for feature writing. In 2004 she covered the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide for the Monitor and the Houston Chronicle; she got her start in journalism interning for the public radio show "This American Life." Her print and multimedia reporting has also appeared in The Boston Globe Magazine and Grist, and her radio work on NPR’s "Morning Edition" and Seattle Public Radio.
