Alan Bjerga is a Washington correspondent for The Wichita Eagle, and has been based in the Knight Ridder Newspapers Washington bureau since 2001. He covers a wide range of issues of interest to his Kansas audience, including aerospace and agriculture. In 2005 he won the Glenn R. Cunningham award as the top farm writer in the United States. He is also lead editor of The Almanac of the Unelected, an annual guide to Capitol Hill staff, and contributes to The Washington Monthly magazine. Previously, he reported on aerospace and energy issues in Wichita, and also covered business for the Argus Leader of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He began his journalism career with the Saint Paul Pioneer Press. He holds a bachelor's degree in History and English literature from Concordia College and a master's in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota.
