Nina Alvarez is a New York-based independent broadcast journalist with experience in news and documentary production for cable, public and network television broadcast. Since 2001, she has worked as a producer and video shooter throughout Latin America, Middle East and Africa. She has covered the war in Iraq for NBC News, and the Pakistan Earthquake for MTV News. In 2005, she co-produced and shot a pilot for MTV News on youth in conflict zones. She has also produced for Univision and Telemundo and was a contributing correspondent for "LatinoUSA." From 1995 to 2001, Alvarez was a staff producer for ABC News in Miami and Mexico City covering Latin America, the Caribbean and SE United States. Alvarez is currently directing a feature documentary for Showtime about young girls being prostituted and trafficked in the US, as well as producing a documentary about women's access to obstetric care in Nigeria.
