Joshua Benton writes about education for the Dallas Morning News. Before joining the Morning News in 2000, he worked at The Blade in Toledo, serving as a government and projects reporter and part-time rock critic. In 2001, he was a fellow of the Foreign Press Center of Japan. He has reported from Northern Ireland, Germany, and Pitcairn Island. He was a finalist for the Livingston Award for International Reporting for his stories from Pitcairn. A native of small-town south Louisiana, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Yale Herald.
