Nicholas Schmidle Provides Detailed Glimpse into bin Laden Raid

By IRP Staff, August 04, 2011

Nicholas Schmidle, a 2010 IRP Fellow and a freelance reporter, has written a detailed account for the August 8 issue of The New Yorker about the mission to take down Osama bin Laden. The 8,000-word article includes impressive details about the mission: "If all went according to plan, the SEALs would drop from the helicopters into the compound, overpower bin Laden's guards, shoot and kill him at close range, and then take the corpse back to Afghanistan." Schmidle's article has received a great deal of attention, including a video reenactment on CNN and interviews with The Washington Post, NPR and PBS NewsHour. Schmidle also took questions about the article live on The New Yorker site.
