Janet Reitman’s New Book on Scientology Sparks Debate

By IRP Staff, August 03, 2011

Janet Reitman, a 2000 IRP Fellow, has just published Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion, a culmination of five years of research into the religion. Reitman became interested in the subject during a year-long inquiry into the organization for a 2006 Rolling Stone article, "Inside Scientology." Although the Church of Scientology has publicly dismissed the book's claims, the book has been favorably reviewed in publications such as the New York Times Book Review. Reitman was also interviewed by Reuters about the book. As an IRP Fellow in 2000, Reitman traveled to Sierra Leone to profile Foday Sankoh, then the rebel leader of Sierra Leone's Revolutionary United Front.
