Tara Haelle is a freelance science and health journalist and photojournalist who specializes in reporting on vaccines, pediatric and maternal health, parenting, nutrition/obesity, mental health, medical research, environmental health, marine science, and the social sciences. Her work has appeared in Scientific American, The Washington Post, Slate, NOVA, Wired, Politico, Pacific Standard, Muse Magazine, HealthDay, Scuba Diving Magazine, and Frontline Medical Communications. She also blogs at UT’s Science and the Sea blog, her own science mom blog at Red Wine & Apple Sauce and occasionally at Tara Incognita. She is the health editor at Double X Science and is writing an evidence-based parenting book with Emily Willingham for Perigee Books. She earned a master’s in journalism and photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin and is an adjunct journalism instructor at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She previously taught high school English and journalism and is a member of various professional organizations, including NASW, AHCJ, ASJA, SEJ and PIEA.
