Alex Gallafent is a New York-based correspondent for PRI’s “The World,” a co-production of Public Radio International, the BBC World Service and WGBH Boston. In recent years he has reported series from the Brazilian Amazon, Istanbul and Dubai, and was a recent finalist for the Livingston Award in International Reporting.

Alex began his radio career as a network trainee with the BBC in London, with a focus on jazz and classical music. He went on to produce a wide range of programming for the BBC including the arts magazines Front Row and Night Waves, Outlook (World Service) and an award-winning show for children.

Alex graduated from Oriel College, Oxford in philosophy and theology, and undertook postgraduate studies in classical acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He’s performed Shakespeare at venues including the Old Vic and the Tokyo Globe and also composes music for theater. His scores have been heard in London’s West End and at the Edinburgh International Festival.
