Dismantling Liberia’s Weapons of War: Empowering Women and Rehabilitating Soldiers
Seema Mathur reported from Liberia as a 2010 IRP Fellow. Mathur was particularly interested in how individuals and nations reconcile themselves to atrocities committed during and in the wake of war.
In this video, Mathur discusses the high rates of rape in Liberia, both during 14 years of civil war and in 7 years of ensuring peace. She also mentions the notoriously brutal Liberian warlord, General "Butt Naked," whom she has profiled in another video.
