Douglas Stanglin is the editor and primary writer for On Deadline, USA Today’s main news blog. On Deadline is the primary vehicle for major breaking news online at USA Today, and receives 4 million visits a month. Stanglin joined USA Today in 1998 as foreign editor. He also served as a news editor on Page One and editor on the Breaking News team before taking over as editor of On Deadline. From 1972-1981 he worked as a foreign correspondent and editor for United Press International. In 1981 he became Warsaw bureau chief for Newsweek, and later worked for U.S. News and World Report as a foreign correspondent, State Department correspondent and senior editor. Stanglin held a Nieman Fellowship in 1984, and has studied Russian language at Johns Hopkins University and at Norwich University in Vermont. In the early 1990s, Stanglin won the Overseas Press Club first place award for magazine reporting, and the Headliners Club first place award for foreign reporting. Stanglin holds a B.A. in political science from Southern Methodist University.
