Sara Schonhardt has covered stories ranging from rising Islamic conservatism to discrimination against religious and sexual minorities to terror attacks to environmental devastation. During her 11 years in Southeast Asia, she has served as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal and correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor, The International Herald Tribune and Voice of America. She was part of a team at the Journal that received the 2015 Society of Publishers in Asia award for Excellence in Human Rights Reporting for a story about an Indonesian maid’s fight for justice against an abusive employer.
