JP Dukes in an independent journalist and documentary maker specializing in radio, magazine writing, and multimedia. He holds a BA in Anthropology and History from the University of Virginia and studied radio documentary at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. For four years, he worked for “With Good Reason,” a radio program produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Concurrently, he worked on short radio documentaries for PRI’s “Studio 360,” NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and “Day to Day,” and other national and local radio programs. Beginning in 2010, Dukes has been a frequent contributor to Virginia Quarterly Review and has co-produced multimedia presentations that have won top honors at the National Magazine Awards, and Overseas Press Club Awards. His VQR essay about the economic and environmental issues surrounding lobster fishermen in Maine was highlighted by Byliner.com as one of 2011’s “101 Spectacular Non-Fiction Stories.” He is based in Virginia and travels frequently.
