Maggie Jones is a Contributing Writer for The New York Times Magazine. She has also written for The Washington Post, Slate, Elle, Salon and other publications. She has been a finalist for a National Magazine Award and has received fellowships from The Japan Society, The Sundance Institute and The Journalism Fellowships in Child and Family Policy. In addition to reporting on poverty, education and social issues in the United States, she has reported from Thailand, Burma, Japan and Guatemala. She graduated from Vassar College and lives in Newton, Massachusetts.
