Tom Clynes is a freelance journalist and photographer who covers environmental issues, adventure travel, science, and culture. As a contributing editor for the magazines National Geographic Adventure and Popular Science, he has covered Ebola outbreaks and armed conflicts in central Africa, retraced Edmund Hillary's climbs in New Zealand, and chased the ghosts of outlaws and freedom fighters in Iceland, Jamaica, Vanuatu, and the Australian outback. He also writes and photographs for The Times of London, Backpacker and The Washington Post. He is a two-time recipient of the Lowell Thomas Award, and his magazine stories often appear in Houghton-Mifflin’s "Best American" series of magazine-writing anthologies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan.
