Laura McClure Houghton is the new media editor at Mother Jones magazine, where she directs blog content, online dispatches, and multimedia contributions from staff and freelancers. She created the first new media team at the magazine, and advises on emerging trends in online publishing and design including ideas developed during her Knight Digital Media Center Fellowship. She is also a national award-winning investigative reporter, whose writing on provocative issues has been quoted in several prominent national publications, by government officials, and translated internationally. Previously, McClure was the associate editor at California Lawyer magazine, where she received two USC Annenberg Fellowships for her work. She has also been an assistant news/politics editor at Salon.com, where she started the popular “World Press” column. Before her journalism career, she was a volunteer and recruiter for the Peace Corps, and spent two years in rural West Africa. She has a BA in professional writing from Carnegie Mellon University.
