Matthew Clark has been the Africa and Latin America editor for The Christian Science Monitor for the past four years. In this role, he manages one staff writer in Mexico City, one in Johannesburg, South Africa, and dozens of freelance writers across both continents. He has filed stories from a number of different countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, Chad, Liberia, Cuba, Jamaica, and Ecuador. Last year, he won an Overseas Press Club citation for the Robert Spiers Benjamin award for best coverage out of Latin America for a three-part series he co-wrote called, “Cuba: Winds of change.” Before his time on the international desk he worked as a news producer for the Monitor’s award-winning website. Prior to that, he worked for the Peace Corps in Washington and with The Carter Center’s Democracy Program in Atlanta.
