Kelly McEvers is a freelance correspondent for National Public Radio based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  Previously, she was part of an award-winning team that produced the Working series for public radio's business and finance show, "Marketplace." She filed sound-rich profiles of a war fixer in Beirut, a cadaver-handler in Saudi Arabia, a smuggler in Dubai, a sex-worker in Baku, a pirate in the Strait of Malacca, and a marriage broker in Vietnam. Over the last decade, McEvers has reported in Southeast Asia, the former Soviet Union, and the Middle East. Her radio work has also aired on "The World," "This American Life," "Weekend America," "On the Media," the BBC, and the CBC. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, the New Republic, and Slate. She reviews foreign policy books for the San Francisco Chronicle, and she is the founder of SixBillion.org, an online magazine of narrative journalism. McEvers began her career at the Chicago Tribune.
