"Promised Land," is a film by Yoruba Richen about South Africa's efforts to fulfill a post-apartheid pledge to return land to blacks who were forcibly removed from their lands over decades. This beautifully shot film tells a story of two land claims and shows how both whites and blacks in South Africa make compelling cases to settle on the land.

The event is sponsored by the International Reporting Project (IRP), a Washington-based journalism program that gave the New York-based Richen a reporting grant to travel to South Africa to film the story.

Richen will be present to discuss the issues of race and reconciliation in South Africa as well as the making of her film, winner of a Fledgling Fund Award for Socially Conscious Documentaries.
