Peter J. Spielmann is a supervising editor on the North America Desk of The Associated Press, the gateway at AP’s New York headquarters for foreign copy selected for U.S. distribution. Spielmann was the AP news editor and correspondent for the South Pacific, based in Sydney, Australia, from 1993-1999. He was dispatched on other assignments including Seoul, South Korea; Brussels, Belgium, to cover NATO at the end of the Kosovo crisis, and Antarctica. Prior to his assignment in Sydney, Spielmann was an AP correspondent at the United Nations for five years. In 2008, Spielmann taught “International Reporting” at the American University of Kuwait as a Fulbright Senior Specialist. Spielmann is currently on the editorial board of the quarterly Journal of Human Rights.

Spielmann was awarded a prior fellowship with IRP, reporting from Peru in 2009.
