Alexis Okeowo is a New York-based freelance journalist who has worked in Cuba, Mexico, and across sub-Saharan Africa. She is a 2012 Alicia Patterson Fellow, for which she has written about gay rights in Africa, and was the recipient of a Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting grant in 2011. Formerly on the editorial staff of The New Yorker, Okeowo has written for various publications, including The New Yorker and The New York Times. She grew up in Alabama and graduated from Princeton University
