Dalia Mortada is a freelance writer, radio reporter, traveler and eater based in Istanbul. She regularly reports for PRI’s The World, and her work has appeared on the CBC, Deutsche Welle, America Abroad, Bending Borders, Making Contact, Monocle 24 and others. She covers social issues, focusing on Syrian refugees in Turkey, minority groups in Istanbul, Kurdish rights, women’s rights and domestic violence, and occasionally covers the ever-changing landscape of Turkish politics. Prior to living in Istanbul, Mortada participated in the PBS NewsHour’s desk assistant program, arming her with basic journalism skills to become a freelancer abroad.

Mortada was awarded a prior fellowship with IRP, reporting from Myanmar in 2015.
