Margaret McElligott has worked every shift on the 24-hour newsdesk since coming to washingtonpost.com three years ago. After starting on the night newsdesk, she's now a senior producer on the day shift, backing up the home page editors, grabbing wires, producing stories, sending news alerts and putting out fires. She was previously assistant managing editor at AllAfrica.com -- the world's largest source of news and information about Africa -- where she managed the internship program and worked on the English newsdesk. She has won journalism fellowships in or reported from southern Africa, Germany, Israel and Japan. McElligott was also assistant news editor at Knight Ridder/Tribune Business Service. In her free time, she plays on rugby, basketball, soccer and flag football teams.
