Dawn MacKeen

Fellows Spring 2002

Dawn MacKeen is a freelance reporter based in Los Angeles. She is the author of a forthcoming book for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Previously, she covered health and social issues as a staff writer for Salon.com and Smart Money Magazine.  At Newsday, her investigative series on assisted living facilities’ poor care helped prompt legislative reform. It also won the top investigative award from the New York State Newspaper Publishers Association and the state’s Associated Press Writing Contest. Her articles have also appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the Sunday Times Magazine (London), Elle, and the Los Angeles Times. She holds a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and a B.A. in Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley.
