Lola Huete Machado is a journalist at Spain’s weekly newsmagazine El País Semanal who reports regularly on topics of national and international social concern. She has investigated child prostitution in Cambodia, child soldiers in Sierra Leone, victims of Spain’s Civil War, human rights activists in Brazil, and Roma Gypsies in Europe. She obtained a bachelor’s in Psychology from the National University of Distance Education in Madrid (UNED), a master’s in Journalism from El Pais Newspaper and the Autonomous University of Madrid and she was a 2001 international journalism fellow at Freie University in Berlin. She has also served as Berlin correspondent for El País, and in 2011 she created an El País blog titled “Africa is not a Country.” Located in the newspaper’s online international section, the blog seeks to broaden awareness about Africa.
