Lauren Keane is currently the investigative projects web editor for the The Washington Post. She is responsible for the online side of all the Post’s long-term investigative projects whether they are local, national or international news. Last winter, Keane reported from Beijing, China, as the Washington Post correspondent, writing primarily on economic and human rights issues. Before joining the Post, she worked in Beijing for two years for China’s Caijing Magazine, reported for National Public Radio and assisted in NPR’s Beijing bureau. In 2005, she was awarded a Henry Luce Scholarship to study advanced Mandarin as a Blakemore-Freeman Scholar in China. During her stay in China, she visited 16 Chinese provinces and much of East and Southeast Asia. From 2003-2004, she also worked in Central America (Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala) researching rural microfinance programs and their impact.
