Elizabeth Cheng Krist is a senior photo editor at National Geographic. Her responsibilities include every phase of producing the photography: researching the scope of the stories, deciding on subjects and destinations for photographic coverage, editing up to 30,000 frames per story and working with designers on layout, with writers on captions and with researchers to verify content. She also generates story proposals and helped formulate plans for the magazine’s special China issue in May 2008. She has been with National Geographic since 1994. Previously she was an assistant photo editor at Fortune, specializing in stories from Europe and Asia. Before that she worked at the Asia Society as the photo editor for their magazine, Asia. She has been a judge for College Photographer of the Year, Best of Photojournalism, the RFK Journalism Awards and other competitions.
