Oscar Avila is a member of the Chicago Tribune‘s Editorial Board, writing opinion pieces on local, national and international affairs. He was the paper’s Latin America correspondent from 2006-09, based in Mexico City and covering news from Cuba to Argentina. Before that, he covered immigration issues for the Metro Desk, winning honors from the National Headliner Awards in 2007 for his coverage of the beat.
Oscar also worked for the Kansas City Star for six years, including a long stint as the paper’s Missouri correspondent. He earned a B.A. from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
