Matthew Algeo is a freelance writer and reporter currently based in Rome. His latest book is Harry Truman’s Excellent Adventure: The True Story of a Great American Road Trip. Algeo has reported from three continents, and his stories have appeared on some of the most popular public radio programs in the United States, including All Things Considered, Marketplace, and Morning Edition. His experience is not limited to journalism, however. At various times he’s been a convenience store clerk, a gas station attendant, a Halloween costume salesman and a proofreader. He also worked in a traveling circus. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in folklore.
