Alan Bjerga covers agricultural policy for Bloomberg News in Washington, D.C. In 2009 he won awards from the Overseas Press Club, the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and the North American Agricultural Journalists for his work in Ethiopia covering famine and U.S. food aid. Previously he worked in the Knight-Ridder Washington bureau, where he won the NAAJ’s top writing award in 2005. He began his journalism career with the Saint Paul Pioneer Press in Minnesota. He holds a bachelor’s degree in History and English literature from Concordia College and a master’s in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota. He is the current vice president of the National Press Club.
