Ethiopia trip fellows are required to produce blog posts, social network updates, stories and other content frequently throughout the trip, which will survey newborn health in the country.

The IRP trip will focus on efforts to prevent newborn deaths, as well as provide an overview of maternal and child health, immunizations, nutrition, communicable diseases, and health care provision in Ethiopia, among other topics.

In particular, we will look at three preventable and treatable conditions that still persist: premature births, complications during childbirth and infections.

We will also examine social factors—such as women’s empowerment, governance, and marginalized communities—in this landlocked East African country.

In 800 to 1,000 words, please describe the stories and angles you would like to pursue on these topics.

Fellows will be required to post stories frequently throughout the trip.

How often would you post, and what type of stories–articles, blog posts, slideshows, Storifies, video and audio clips–do you plan to produce? Where will these stories appear?

Are there any organizations, individuals or locations in Ethiopia you would like to visit?

How did you first hear about IRP’s international trips?
I agree to abide by the terms of the IRP program and to produce news stories that will appear on the IRP website and on the websites of IRP donors when appropriate. These stories will be treated as full collaborations by the IRP, the journalist, and the journalist’s news organization (where relevant). Any added elements to the story, such as stock photography, may also be used by the IRP. I agree to give credit to the IRP on all stories produced as a result of the fellowship and to treat the IRP as an equal partner in submitting these stories for journalism contests and awards.
